Frequently asked questions
The essentials about Life Catalog.
Life Catalog is a free personal library for organizing what you want to live. It is not a task list or a productivity app.
What is Life Catalog?
A private personal library for organizing what you want to live: books, travel, projects, experiences, and whatever actually matters to you. You can note why it deserves your time, and what it left with you when you lived it. Not for day-to-day errands.
Is Life Catalog free?
Yes. This version is free. You can build your catalog, organize it, and use it privately at no cost. If a later version adds more integrations, that will be optional.
Do I have to add everything by hand?
No. Settings has two prompts: one for the AI to build a first catalog from your interests, and one to convert a list you already have (including long lists, in batches). Paste the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, or another assistant, import the JSON, review the preview, and confirm.
Is it a bucket list app?
Not exactly. A bucket list is usually a checklist of big dreams. Life Catalog is a library of what you want to live: it can include that, and also smaller things, works, learning, and projects. It asks why something deserves your time, and when you live it you can note what it left with you.
Does it help me organize my life and goals?
Yes, if “organize my life” means what you want to live in the short and long term, not shopping, routines, or productivity. It is for choosing and sorting experiences with intention.
Is it a task manager or habit tracker?
No. Life Catalog is not designed for shopping lists, daily tasks, routines, streaks, or productivity. It does not try to help you do more. It helps you choose better.
What can I save?
You can create categories and collections for books you want to read, albums you want to hear, films you want to watch, places you want to visit, skills you want to develop, projects you want to create, and experiences you want to remember.
There is no correct catalog. You decide what deserves a place in yours.
Do I have to complete everything I add?
No. Adding something is not a promise or an obligation. Your catalog can change with you. You can leave it pending, begin it, live it, or consciously discard it.
Do I need to add dates or deadlines?
No. Dates are optional. Life Catalog does not turn your experiences into deadlines.
What is the difference between Library and My Story?
The Library looks forward: it contains what you still want to explore, learn, experience, or create.
My Story looks back: it preserves the moments and experiences you chose to remember.
Why does it ask, “Why does this deserve a few hours of my life?”
Because your time is limited. The question helps you distinguish between something that truly matters and something you are simply accumulating.
What does “What did it leave in me?” mean?
It is an optional reflection after an experience. It is not meant to produce a review, but to preserve how something affected you, what you learned, or why it became part of you.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your catalog is private by default. There are no public profiles, feeds, followers, or social content.
Can I use it across different devices?
Yes. When you sign in with Google, your data securely syncs across the devices where you use Life Catalog.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export a complete JSON backup and a readable CSV of your items. Your data remains yours.
How do I delete my account?
From Settings, you can delete your account and all associated data. Deletion is permanent.
Still have questions?
Life Catalog is designed to remain simple. If something does not help you choose, live, or remember more intentionally, it probably does not belong in the product.
